During a radio interview with Générations Europe 1 yesterday, Georges Fornay, the president of Sony Computer France and the vice-president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, alluded to the possible price-point for the PS3's worldwide November launch (in addition to a few other details). Along with explaining that the system is the only next-generation system thanks to its implementation of Blu-ray and full HD visuals (as well as praising the other features of the console), he also explained that the delay of the system was due to the finalizing of digital rights management for the Blu-ray standard. When asked about the rumors that the console would cost around 500 dollars, Fornay stated, 'Well, listen, if we take into account Blu-ray, HD, we see Blu-ray players at 1000 euros or more, n shores given the history of cheaper U.S. launch prices for Sony consoles. UPDATE!: Not to long after this news hit the web, SCEE representatives released a statement mentioning that Fornay was not announcing a price point or a date. It also stated that Fornay was making a personal observation, saying that the PS3 might be expensive for a videogame system, but relatively cheap compared to the total number of technological features (i.e. Blu-ray and HD playback) included. Special thanks goes out to our man Arnaud for the direct quote translations .

Like the series' overlying theme, Ubisoft has been rather covert with regards to its latest Tom Clancy title, Rainbow Six Vegas. This morning, however, the company let out a few more details on the upcoming tactical shooter, which is once again headed up by Ubisoft''s Montreal Studio, the creators of the award-winning Rainbow Six 3. Team Rainbow features a new group of soldiers this time around, including a new team lead, Recon expert Logan Keller. Keller is backed up by heavy weapons and demolition expert Michael Walter, and Jung Park, a long range and electronics connoisseur. Tactics are said to play a major role in Vegas as well, and is reported to be even more so than in previous incarnations of the series. Luckily, players will have help in the decision-making process since their squad-mates now offer advice in certain situations -- like suggesting that they could break through a wall or hack a nearby computer. Moreover, players are given more advanced planning options too. After using snake cams or other tactical equipment to get a heads-up on the situation, they''re able to tag specific enemies for each of their team members. The result is that users are now able to define exactly who each member is to take out once they enter a room, helping to cut down on the chaos. Various other elements of the game were reiterated that we''ve touched on before, like the game''s advanced AI system, motion-captured animation set, and the ability to pull off advanced moves and tactics like blind covering fire and repelling down buildings. In other words, Ubisoft Montreal is promising that Vegas 'will be the biggest and best Rainbow Six yet.' Tom Clancy''s Rainbow Six Vegas is due sometime this fall on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

According to recent employment opportunity sites and its very own webspace , German development company ACONY is searching for a number of warm bodies to work on its upcoming PS3, Xbox 360, and PC-bound first-person shooter that was announced last year. Positions required include a Lead Technical Artist, a Texture Artist, a Hi-Poly Modeler, a Senior Game Designer, an AI Programmer, and several other important designations. Familiarity with Unreal Engine 3, the technology on which the shooter is based, is definitely a preferred attribute. But 'why is this news considering that companies are looking for new people all the time,' you ask? The answer is two-fold: A very early (and simple) character model. 1.) This is the first time in recent memory that ACONY has listed its previously 'Next-Gen' shooter for specific platforms (PS3, 360). 2.) As part of its recruitment drive, the company has also posted a small bit of sample artwork from the game. You can check it out on our media page below. IGN will return with more information, hopefully at E3, as it develops.

Upstart Korean developer 'Anygame Company' has revealed through job postings that it is currently recruiting staff for at least one upcoming PS3 and Xbox 360 project in its Los Angeles offices. The developer is also looking for animators and game designers to help complete the project and is also searching for a Special Effects Supervisor to head a PS2 / PS3 project known as Big Time Revenge. Whether or not Big Time Revenge and the aforementioned 360 / PS3 title are one in the same is still unclear. No details about Big Time Revenge are currently known, other than the fact that it's an action / adventure title and that it isn''t entirely platform-exclusive. More as it develops.

The last couple of years have seen SEGA make a concerted effort to become a major player in the gaming markets of North America and Europe. This 'Western strategy' has been illustrated by the recent acquisition of The Creative Assembly -- the developer of the Total War franchise -- as well as partnerships with Silicon Knights, Monolith, and Obsidian Entertainment. Today, SEGA furthered this strategy with the announcement that it had acquired North London-based Sports Interactive -- the developer behind the Football Manager franchise -- and San Francisco-based Secret Level who is best known for Magic: Battlegrounds and America's Army: Rise of a Soldier and who is currently recreating a 'classic SEGA franchise' for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. According to Naoya Tsurumi, CEO of SEGA America and SEGA Europe, these acquisitions represent the company''s committment to '

March 20, 2006 - Quazal Technologies, a middleware developer that specializes in multiplayer solutions (Net-Z, Rendez-Vous, Spark), has announced today it has been officially approved to become a member of Sony CE's Tools and Middleware program for the PlayStation 3. 'The next generation of game consoles brings a lot of power to developers, but many of the problems inherent in online gaming remain,' said Martin Lavoie, CTO of Quazal. 'With true cross-title support, and support for multiple PlayStation platforms, developers can save time and money on their online games, while delivering cutting edge features to their end users.' 'A developer making a game during this transition period may want to target not only next-generation platforms like PlayStation 3, but also current generation platforms such as PlayStation and PSP,' stated Mike Drummelsmith, Developer Relations Manager at Quazal. 'With Quazal''s technologies, including the new Spark platform, online games can target all three of these platforms with minimal effort, lowering risk drastically.' Because of this approval, Quazal can now develop and market networking middleware tech for the PS3 to any licensed production house -- specifically for the use of its low-risk lobby and matchmaking management systems and other multiplayer elements.
